Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 5, 1905: “The board of regents met here in connection with the law school dedication. Plans of architect Stanton for the new gymnasium and auditorium were adopted and bids for the erection of the Bell Memorial Hospital at Rosedale were submitted. The contract for $11,500 went to the Taylor firm. :

“A suitable room in the university’s Fraser Hall will be set aside as an employment bureau for the YMCA. :

“Evidence is the Jews are getting the worst of it in Russia. First the government persecuted them and now the revolutionists are killing them like sheep. :

“A new winter time card is being arranged for the winter by the railroads to take into account possible bad weather and delays. :

“The university football team beat Washington (St. Louis) here 21-0 for its seventh victory in eight games. The eighth game was a loss to Colorado at Denver by a 0-15 score. KU hopes to win all three remaining games to finish with a 10-1 record.”
