Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 4, 1905: “It will be remembered that the state board of agriculture gave the population of Douglas County as 24,996. It was just four short of the required 25,000 needed to boost the salaries of county officers beyond where they are at present. Officers knew this was wrong and demanded to get it changed. Latest figures say the county population is at least 25,109 and that will alter salaries to correct the state’s mistake. : The new university law building, completed at a cost of $65,000, has been dedicated with ceremonies as impressive as the building itself.”
