Not quite as warm today

Say goodbye to the 70s — temperatures return to more fall-like conditions today in Lawrence.

“We almost reach the 70-degree mark, but I don’t think we’ll hit it,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “I think today we’ll be climbing into the upper 60s.”

At 8:15 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 50 degrees, the humidity was 77 percent and winds were from the northeast at 3 mph. Skies were clear throughout the area.

“It is a beautiful start to your Friday,” Reith said. Winds will be out of the north to northeast at 5 to 10 mph, he said. Some high clouds will move through, creating filtered sunshine, he said. Today’s high temperature will climb to 68 degrees, he said.

If you’re headed out tonight to the Lawrence vs. Blue Valley Northwest high school football game (see story), you might want to bring a jacket, Reith said. Temperatures will be in the lower 50s at the 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Haskell Stadium.

“It will get a bit chilly,” Reith said.

A few clouds move into the area after midnight, he said. The temperature will drop to a low of 44 degrees by early Saturday morning, he said.

Football fans going to the Kansas-Nebraska football game at Memorial Stadium will find cloudy conditions and temperatures in the 60s at the noon kickoff, Reith said. Temperatures will reach a high of 64 degrees.

“Maybe we’ll see a few sprinkles around the Lawrence area. Most of us should stay dry,” he said. Reith predicted that the major rainfall activity would be well east of Lawrence, into northeast Missouri.

Sunday’s morning low in Lawrence will be 42 degrees. Sunday’s high temperature will reach 66 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, he said.
