Diversion probable for ex-Free State coach

Former Free State High School basketball coach Jack Schreiner likely will be offered diversion for a window-peeping charge in Municipal Court.

“We are drafting a diversion agreement as we speak,” city prosecutor Jerry Little said Thursday. “We’re negotiating it right now.”

Little said he was recommending that Schreiner’s diversion plan include a letter of apology, a mental-health evaluation and an order to not have contact with the victim.

If Schreiner followed the conditions for a year, the charge would be dismissed.

Schreiner resigned from Free State High earlier this week. He was charged in late October with looking into a woman’s home in northwest Lawrence, and a judge has issued a protection-from-stalking order against him.
