In 1980: Kansas University officials said a number of countermeasures were in effect to deal with the so-called grade inflation that had altered the academic scene in many areas. The “inflation” was seen by some as a backlash of the Vietnam War days when teachers sometimes bolstered grades to prevent students with educational deferments from being called into the military.
