Howard brothers lead Thunder to victory

If one brother wasn’t scoring, the other one was playing lockdown defense. The twin bash brothers, Nicholas and Matthew Howard, led the 6U Lightning Kickers to victory in the season finale Saturday against the Thunder Pirates at Youth Sports Inc.

The Howard brothers caused fits for the Thunder Pirates, using their speed and precision passing to connect on several goals.

Nicholas showcased his playmaking abilities, unleashing a perfectly placed cross-field pass to Matthew, who finished with an early goal for the Lightning Kickers.

Adding to the Lightning Kicker firepower was Conner Phillips. Phillips was able to put the Lightning Kickers on the board early after charging through two Thunder Pirates and burying the first goal of the game.

Cole Baker provided the hustle and intensity for the Lightning Kickers by harassing the Thunder Pirate attack. On three separate occasions, Baker broke up Thunder Pirate throw-ins and raced downfield for the goals.

Working with one sub, the Thunder Pirates looked to slow the Lightning Kicker attack. Atlee Myers roamed the defense, coming up with several important steals and setting up the Thunder Pirate attack.

Chase Garcia and Jacob Mills did an excellent job of putting their body in front of the charging Lightning Kicker attack, which allowed the defense to set up for the stop.

After missing a couple of scoring opportunities, it was Sarah Ramaley who connected on a goal for the Thunder Pirates. Ramaley used her speed and agility to dodge the Lightning Kicker defense and record the Thunder Pirates’ sole goal of the day.

A limited bench and an overwhelming Lightning Kicker offense were too much for the Thunder Pirates to handle.

Team speedster Baker raced up and down the field to come up with several steals and four goals on the day.

Alex Cohen, who lingered backfield to position himself to stop the Thunder Pirate offense, led the Lightning Kickers defensively. Cohen was able to break up several Thunder Pirate odd-man rushes, keeping the momentum and the win with the Lightning Kickers.
