Comets squeak out win

? Sheryl Swoopes scored 31 points, including 12 in the second overtime, to lift the Houston Comets over the Indiana Fever 86-78 on Sunday.

Michelle Snow had 21 points on 9-for-9 shooting, and Dominique Canty added 15 points for the Comets.

Tamika Catchings led Indiana with 20 points and rookie Tan White added 12.

Tied at 67 after the first overtime, Houston went on a 10-0 run behind seven straight points from Swoopes and a three-point play from Canty.

Indiana (3-1) trailed 60-51 with 4 minutes left in regulation, but outscored Houston 12-3 down the stretch. Catchings made a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to send the game into overtime at 63-all.

Swoopes had a chance to win the game in regulation, but her jump shot hit the front of the rim.

“I was so frustrated with myself at the end of regulation,” Swoopes said. “I missed three free throws that would have put us ahead, and we would have never gone into overtime.”

Monarchs 67, Lynx 66

Minneapolis – Yolanda Griffith had 18 points to lead the Monarchs after a video review showed Nicole Ohlde’s layup came after the buzzer.

Officials originally called Ohlde’s basket good, but reversed the ruling after reviewing tape of the play.

DeMya Walker added 15 points for Sacramento (3-0).

Katie Smith had a game-high 23 points for the Lynx (1-2). Ohlde gave Minnesota a 66-65 lead with 1:31 left, but Griffith made a scoop shot with 25.1 seconds remaining.

Storm 79, Silver Stars 51

Seattle – Lauren Jackson scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Seattle Storm to a 79-51 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars on Sunday night.

After missing her first four shots, Jackson finished 8-of-16 from the field and made all five of her free throws.

Sue Bird had 18 points and Betty Lennox added 12 for the Storm (2-1).
