Janet Scott, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker McGrew Real Estate, has received the certified residential specialist designation by the Council of Residential Specialists. Realtors who receive the CRS designation have completed advance courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate.

¢ Dan Cary, a senior financial adviser with American Express Financial Advisors, has joined American Express Platinum Financial Services, a group of the company’s financial advisers offering specialized service to affluent clients. American Express’ most experienced financial advisors provide Platinum Financial Services, which offers an expanded scope of personal, comprehensive financial advice to clients who have invested at least $500,000 in assets with the company.

Such advisers have access to advanced planning tools, resources for complex estate planning and stock option analysis, a national team of specialists and wrap accounts that enables the handling of complex, sophisticated client needs.

¢ Dr. Michael Stuart, of Stuart Chiropractic Health Center, Lawrence, was a featured speaker in May at the Kansas City Pinnacle Interface meeting of more than 50 doctors and their staffs. Stuart talked about his patients’ positive responses to the no-waiting procedure at his office.

Honors and awards

Peggy Johnson, senior financial adviser for American Express Financial Advisors in Lawrence, recently earned membership in the Million Dollar Round Table.

The round table is an international, independent association of 29,652 life insurance and financial services professionals from 76 nations and territories. The total represents fewer than 1 percent of the world’s financial professionals.

Round table membership is granted for one year, and members qualify based on their production during the previous year. The associations says that its members demonstrate exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client service.

¢ Douglas County Bank has earned a five-star superior rating from BauerFinancial Inc. for the 65th consecutive quarter, giving the bank the added distinction of being an “Exceptional Performance Bank.”

The rating recognizes the bank’s continual superior performance and strength based on an evaluation of the most recent financial data filed by the bank with federal regulators and analyzed by BauerFinancial, an independent bank-rating firm based in Coral Gables, Fla.

¢ John Parker, Lawrence, recently was named 2005 Executive of the Year by the Kansas City chapter of the Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica. Parker was recognized at the association’s recent awards gala at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo.

Parker is president and owner of Mainline Printing in Topeka.

Parker began his career with Hallmark Cards as a salesman in Worcester, Maine, in 1982 after graduating from Kansas University. He joined Mainline Printing in 1987, and bought the business from his father in 1992.

Mainline Printing employs 105 administrative and production workers. The company recently moved into a new 140,000-square-foot building.

¢ The Kansas City chapter of the Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica recently presented two Lawrence companies with awards during the association’s awards gala at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo.

Kingston Printing & Design Inc. received the Gold Award, Best of Category and two Awards of Excellence.

ProPrint Inc. won four Awards of Excellence.

¢ First State Bank & Trust, Tonganoxie, recently was honored as the first recipient of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka’s Community Leader Award. FHLBank, a wholesale financial institution of which First State Bank is a member, presented the award to Kent Needham, president and CEO of First State Bank & Trust, at a conference April 21 in Overland Park.

Since 2001, First State Bank has accessed FHLBank’s Rural First-time Homebuyer Program to provide down payment assistance to more than 38 of its customers purchasing a first home. First State Bank also used an additional $25,000 in FHLBank grant money to provide economic development assistance to Leavenworth Area Development Inc., so that the organization could improve its marketing efforts as it continues to try and attract new business to the Leavenworth area.

Part of the award included a $1,000 donation to the Tonganoxie Civic Club from FHLBank on behalf of First State Bank, which has $248 million in assets and eight locations throughout northeast Kansas and Wichita.

Coming events

The Lawrence Apple User’s Group 2.0 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Signs of Life bookstore, 722 Mass. The lesson will be, “Why Tiger Should Be On Your Mac.”

¢ The K-10 Assn. annual meeting and luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 10 at the Lenexa Conference Center. Barbara Atkinson, executive dean and vice chancellor of the Kansas University Medical Center, will speak on “The KU Medical Center – Planning For Growth in the 21st Century.”
