Monarchs’ defense stingy

? Sacramento limited San Antonio to a near-franchise low for field goals attempted, and Yolanda Griffith had 21 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Monarchs to a 71-67 victory over the Silver Stars on Friday.

The Monarchs held San Antonio to 47 shots from the floor. The franchise low for shots attempted is 43 on July 26, 2001, when the Silver Stars were the Utah Starzz. The Silver Stars were able to stay close because of free throws. San Antonio went to the line 31 times, nine more than Sacramento, and sank all but six tries.

San Antonio didn’t score until 3:16 into the game on Marie Ferdinand’s jump shot. Combined with the final 3:22 Tuesday at Detroit, where San Antonio was outscored 16-0, the Silver Stars were outscored 22-0 over a stretch of 6:38.
