Roundabout rules

To the editor:

Kathleen Christian’s motive is good – helping people learn how to use roundabouts. But she got some of the facts wrong.

“When a car is in the roundabout, wait until they are about to exit and then enter the roundabout.” No. If it is safe for you to enter the roundabout, then do so. It’s often perfectly safe even if another car is in the roundabout.

“When two cars arrive at an intersection at the same time … the driver on the right has the right of way.” No. In fact, if two cars arrive at a roundabout at the same time, there’s no reason they shouldn’t both enter.
