Light rain expected through afternoon

If you see a few sprinkles outside today, don’t change your Memorial Day plans — Lawrence is expected to get only a splash or two this afternoon, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“Through the afternoon, we’ll see a few passing showers through about 5 o’clock,” Sayers said. He said the earlier forecast had called for a very slight chance of rain.

“And that very slight chance is happening,” Sayers said about 12:40 p.m.

“As far as rain totals, we’re talking a few hundreths of an inch, nothing very impressive. But as dry as this spring has been, any little bit helps,” Sayers said.

At 12:45 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 69 degrees, with a few light sprinkles moving through the city.

Today’s high will be 78, with northwest changing to southwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 53 by early Saturday morning.

Saturday’s high will climb to 80, with partly cloudy skies.

“It’ll be a great day to get outside and enjoy the holiday weekend,.” Reith said. However, there is a chance for showers and thunderstorms late Saturday night into the early Sunday morning hours, he said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 59, with the high climbing Sunday afternoon to 75.

On Monday, Memorial Day, the temperature will start out with a low of 53 in the morning, climbing to a high of 73, under cloudy skies, he said.
