Bright, sunny skies return

Pull out the shorts and sandals – a bright warm day is in store for Lawrence.

“We’re going to have seventies and sunshine,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Grab your sunglasses on the way out.”

At 8:30 a.m., skies were mostly sunny throughout the city, with the temperature at 58 degrees and 8-mph west-northwesterly winds.

“It’s a beautiful start to our Thursday morning, ” Schack said.

A cold front pushed through Wednesday evening through the area, but didn’t produce any precipitation overnight. And no rain is expected today, she said.

“Eventually we do develop some clouds this afternoon,” she said. “There’s a lot of sunshine between the clouds.”

Temperatures will top out just below average at 77 degrees today. The average for this date is 78, she said. Winds will be from the north-northwest at 8 to 15 mph, she said.

Overnight, the low will drop to 50 by early Friday morning.

Friday’s forecast will be similar to today’s, with the temperature climbing to a high of 78 degrees with a few clouds and northwest winds 5 to 12 mph.

“It’s not until Saturday that things begin to change,” she said. Temperatures will be a little warmer.

Saturday’s morning temperature will be 48, with Saturday’s high climbing to 81 degrees.

The forecast is expected to stay dry through the Memorial Day weekend.
