To the editor:

Ask students who attended Lawrence Alternative High School student what they appreciated about the school. Chances are, many of them will say it was the respect the teachers showed toward the students. I have attended LAHS for two years and I consider the teachers and principal at LAHS to be more than my teachers. They are my friends. They guided us through our course work.

By the way, people may not realize it, but the curriculum at LAHS was the same as the curriculum followed at Lawrence High School and Free State High School. The teachers and staff went out of their way to help us inside the classroom, as well as outside the classroom. And in doing so, they made a positive impact in our education and in our lives.

To all the teachers and staff who work at LAHS, which is being permanently closed this week, I just want to give a great big thank you. I know I speak for many other students when I say the school, and all of you, have made a difference in my life. You will be missed.
