Library seeks teen volunteers

The Lawrence Public Library is looking for teens for its summer VolunTEEN Program. Volunteers will help with children’s programs, sort books, assist with new materials and other tasks. Those interested should attend an orientation at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. today.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities. Drivers are needed from 11:30 a.m. to noon for deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays. Drivers pick up meals at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and deliver them. It usually takes an hour to deliver. Volunteers must have insurance and a driver’s license. For more information, call 979-1440.
  • Trinity Respite Care, serving individuals with disabilities, needs volunteers for the “Time Out for Parents” program. Volunteers will supervise children at the Trinity Respite Care office, 2201 W. 25th St. The program will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. two Saturdays a month. Experience is not necessary, but a short interview and orientation are required. Call (785) 842-3159.
  • In celebration of National Trails Day, the Perry Lake Park organization needs volunteers to help with installation of a memorial park bench. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. June 18. For more information, contact Kevin Otterman at (913) 856-8281, or skiotter@aol.com.
