Horizon 2020 changes on agenda

Bottom line

Planning commissioners will take public comment on three proposed changes to Horizon 2020, the city and county’s comprehensive plan. The commission will consider adopting new chapters that address historic preservation, parks and open space, and transportation.

Background

The new parks and recreation chapter recommends that planners investigate the feasibility of using impact or development fees to purchase new park land and open space. The new transportation chapter recommends all new public and private streets built in the city have sidewalks on both sides. It also calls for sidewalks to be wider than normal in areas where pedestrian traffic is expected to be heavy. All changes to Horizon 2020 will have to be approved by city and county commissioners before they become final.
