Hall of Athletics ceremony today

The public is invited to the official groundbreaking for the Booth Family Hall of Athletics at 9:15 a.m. today.

Work already has begun on integrating the shrine to the east side of Allen Fieldhouse, but construction fences will be removed, and an area will be cleared for today’s symbolic ceremony.

Kansas University Chancellor Robert Hemenway, athletic director Lew Perkins and members of the Booth family will be on hand.

The addition to the home of KU’s basketball teams was made possible through more than $4 million in gifts and pledges from the children and grandchildren of the late Gilbert and Betty Booth of Lawrence.

Architectural renderings of the project were expected to be made public for the first time today.
