Goodbyes

By Laura Windheuser

The shimmering rays of sunrise

Peak over the distant horizon,

Seemingly oblivious to the hold

Now gouged in my heart.

I shiver with cold,

But you are not here to warm me.

This single cup of coffee

Must now take your place.

Goodbyes are precious,

But we had none.

All I ask is,

Why?

A radio crackles in the distance,

Spreading abroad the details of the night.

Yet, I want no reminder,

No reminder of the scream,

No reminder of the crash,

No reminder of the moment.

Big Finish

By Cyrus Beedles

I saw the signs

Throughout the town

For a birthday magician.

“Book now!” it said, “Book now!”

So, I booked him for my sister,

And he appeared at her pool.

A magnificent robe he was in.

He performed his show

And received his applause.

For his final feat,

He fell back into the pool,

SPLASH!!

And there was his robe,

Only his robe.
