Reds deck Dodgers, halt eight-game slide

Cincy's Jimenez comes up big off bench

? Just when D’Angelo Jimenez’s job seemed to be in jeopardy, he hit his way back into the picture.

Jimenez snapped a slump by coming off the bench to produce three hits, including two doubles, and Austin Kearns hit his second home run in two days as the Cincinnati Reds snapped an eight-game losing streak Saturday with an 11-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The switch-hitting second baseman didn’t enter the game until the sixth, but went 3-for-3 from the left side and scored three times as the Reds matched their season high in runs and avoided their longest losing streak since an 11-game drought in June 1998.

“I don’t remember (anybody getting) three hits off the bench,” manager Dave Miley said. “Somebody might’ve had two, but you don’t usually see that when you double-switch and the guy stays in the game. It’s a good sign that he kept working.”

Phoenix — Josh Fogg limited Arizona to two hits in seven-plus innings to help Pittsburgh beat the Diamondbacks for its fourth victory in five games. Matt Lawton went 3-for-4 with a walk, and the Pirates finished with 14 hits against five Arizona pitchers. Miami — Josh Beckett pitched seven shutout innings, and Florida beat Colorado, extending the Rockies’ losing streak to 10 games. Left fielder Miguel Cabrera threw out a runner at the plate, went 3-for-4 with a walk and drove in Florida’s first run.

Nationals 11, Giants 8

San Francisco — Ryan Church hit a tiebreaking, bases-clearing double in the ninth inning — finishing with career highs of four hits and four RBIs — and Washington sent San Francisco to its fourth straight loss.
