Nursery school raises thousands

The Red School Rockin’ Block Party fund-raiser for the Lawrence Community Nursery School on Saturday brought in nearly $3,000, which will be used to help fund improvements to the school.

Roughly 400 people attended the event.

Tricia Klein, who helped organize it, said this was the largest block party the nursery school, at 645 Ala., had hosted since the event began seven years ago.

“We closed off the street and had a great time,” Klein said.

The party featured two stages: one for adults and one for children. The adult stage had musical acts like the Heebie Jeebies and the New Amsterdams, while the children’s stage featured storytellers and other musicians.

The nursery school also hosted a fun run Saturday morning, which raised $1,500 to help with health insurance costs for the school’s director.
