Youth Golf Academy: Registration is under way for the second year of the Douglas County Junior Golf Academy. Youths ages 8-17 are eligible for the academy taught by PGA members. Eubanks Runner-up: Taylor Eubanks of Lawrence’s Falbo Knows Tennis Academy was second overall among U-12 girls at the Missouri Valley Spring Grand Prix in Kansas City.

Roberts JGC Champ: Conrad Roberts shot a one-under-par 71 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Mike Naegele was runner-up with a 74. Van Reichert and Jim Cummins carded 76s. In net scoring, Keith Wallace was low with a 68, followed by James Rudy’s 69 and Robert Ward’s 72.

Habitat Golf Champs: A team of Kent Tomlinson, Chuck Blaser, Rich Dummermuth and Derek Dummermuth combined to win the sixth annual Lawrence Habitat for Humanity benefit golf tournament at Lawrence Country Club.

Boeck Division Winner: Dee Boeck of Lawrence won the women’s ages 55-59 division of Sunday’s Lincoln, Neb.,Half-Marathon, completing the race in a time of 1:49:19.

McDaniel A-A: Corrie McDaniel, a Seattle Pacific U. senior from Lawrence, earned All-America status at the U.S. Gymnastics championships in Ithaca, N.Y. McDaniel captured bronze medals in floor exercise and on the beam with scores of 9.775 and 9.650 respectively. McDaniel, who has a 3.74 GPA in classic literature, also earned an NCAA graduate scholarship worth $7,500.

Mihura Top Ringer: Wynne Mihura of Lawrence won the Sam Adame Open horseshoe pitching tournament Saturday at Broken Arrow Park. Terry Cuthbertson of Topeka was runner-up, and Ken Perry of Vassar was third. In the B division, the top placers were Ray Carr of Iola, Priscilla Hedges of Lawrence and Clyde Gerdsen of Iola.

UNB 88’s Win: Lawrence University National Bank 88’s won the Ottawa Spring Fling U-13 baseball tournament. Sidewinders First: Lawrence Sidewinders won a U-12 state baseball tournament last weekend in Manhattan. Rebels Titlists: Kansas Rebels won the U-10 division of Negro Baseball Museum Tournament on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. Team members are Matt Baker, Jacob Caldwell, Garrick Clapp, Drake Hofer, Alex Green, Drew Green, Rigby McClure, Kyle McFarland, Adam Rea, Cody Scott, Stan Skwarlo, CJ Stuever and Shane Willoughby. Heitzman Age-Group Winner: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the ages 70-74 division of the Kansas Two-Mile Championships Saturday in Hutchinson in a time of 14:01. Heitzman’s grandson, Jeffrey Heitzman, finished fourth in the U-12 division.

Dobbins Conquers Half-Ironman: Kent Dobbins of Lawrence won the men’s ages 60-64 division of the Beauty and the Beast Half-Ironman Triathlon Sunday on St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. Dobbins was clocked in six hours, eight minutes, 35 seconds. His wife, Liz Dobbins, finished fourth in the women’s 50-54 age group in a time of 7:03:20.
