Best of the rest

A look at the six teams fighting for the last four Big 12 Conference baseball tournament spots. The tournament starts May 25 at SBC Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Though no teams have clinched, Baylor, Texas, Nebraska and Missouri all have Big 12 records over .500, and likely to lock up berths:

Oklahoma State

Record: 30-18 overall (10-11 Big 12).

Remaining conference schedule: May 13-15 vs. Oklahoma; May 20-22 at Kansas.

Comment: Currently fifth in the standings. Cowboys are in if they play well the rest of the way.

Texas Tech

Record: 28-16 (8-11).

Remaining conference schedule: May 13-15 vs. Nebraska; May 20-22 at Oklahoma.

Comment: Two rained-out conference games give Red Raiders two fewer chances to pick up a victory.

Oklahoma

Record: 22-20 (7-11).

Remaining conference schedule: May 6-8 at Kansas State; May 13-15 vs. Oklahoma State; May 20-22 vs. Texas Tech.

Comment: Team reeling after longtime coach Larry Cochell resigned Sunday after making racially insensitive remarks about a player.

Texas A&M

Record: 28-20 (8-13).

Remaining conference schedule: May 13-15 vs. Baylor; May 20-22 vs. Texas.

Comment: Currently in eighth place, but Aggies have the toughest remaining schedule — by far.

Kansas

Record: 29-21 (6-11).

Remaining conference schedule: May 6-8 vs. Texas; May 13-15 at Missouri; May 20-22 vs. Oklahoma State.

Comment: Still has a good chance, but the Jayhawks need to take care of business as an underdog.

Kansas State

Record: 23-20 (7-14).

Remaining conference schedule: May 6-8 vs. Oklahoma; May 20-22 at Nebraska.

Comment: Rolling before Kansas series last weekend; can the Wildcats get back on track?
