May free-entry day slate

Each year, Kansas State Parks designates a free-entrance day. In the past, these free days have been the same at each park.

However, park policy changed so that each park could conduct free park entrance days tailored to its facilities, seasonal events and patron usage.

Here are free entry days scheduled this month:

  • May 7: Fall River, Cross Timbers, Elk City.
  • May 7-8: Meade, Kanopolis, Prairie Dog, Pomona.

The Kanopolis free days will feature buffalo soldier-cavalry re-enactments, the Fort Riley Mounted Color Guard, a trail event, horse rides and naturalist programs.

At Pomona, there will be re-enactments of the Kansas frontier with a Lewis & Clark commemoration and the Lawrence massacre.
