FSHS tennis champions at Gardner Invitational

? A strong day across the board propelled the Free State High boys tennis team to a first-place finish at the eight-team Gardner-Edgerton Invitational on Saturday.

Charles Guard led the Firebird charge, going 5-0 and winning the No. 2 singles flight. He was joined by a second-place finish at No. 1 singles by Keith Pipkin.

Both doubles teams earned third-place finishes — Jack Hull and Drew Schelar at No. 1 doubles, and Stephen Donly and Nick Martinez at No. 2 doubles.

In all, the Firebirds went 17-3 on the day, and were unbeaten in pool play.

The Firebirds will return to action Tuesday in the Topeka High Invitational.
