Theater to have auditions for musical

Lawrence Community Theatre will have auditions for the Lerner and Loewe musical “Brigadoon” at 7 p.m. April 11 and 12 at the theater, 1501 N.H.

A large cast is needed. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a brief song. Among the songs in the musical are “The Heather on the Hill,” “The Love of My Life,” “Come to Me, Bend to Me” and “Almost Like Being in Love!”

Principal roles will include Charlie Dalrymple, betrothed to Jean, three featured songs; Fiona MacLaren, bright, gentle and disarmingly frank, four featured songs; Harry Beaton, Archie’s son, sensitive, should dance or move well; Jean, betrothed to Charlie, a dancer; Meg Brockie, free spirit, comic, two solos; and Tommy Albright, American visitor, four featured songs.

There are additional featured roles plus the need for many good singers and dancers. The choral music in “Brigadoon” is abundant and glorious. A variety of ages and character looks are needed to make the village come alive.

The show is under the direction of Mary Doveton, with music direction by Judy Heller and choreography by Barbara Wasson. Scripts may be checked out from the theater office with a $10 deposit. “Brigadoon” is scheduled to run June 3-19.
