KU women’s golf ninth in Arizona

? The Kansas University women’s golf squad placed ninth after Sunday’s final round at the 15-team Mountain View Collegiate.

The Jayhawks shot a third-round total of 296 and finished with a three-round total of 892. All three rounds were under 300, a first for KU this season.

“I saw a lot of improvement in this tournament,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said. “It was a good confidence-booster for us, and hopefully we can use this as a building block for the rest of the season.”

Freshman Annie Giangrosso was the top KU finisher, placing 15th after a 220. Sophomore Amanda Costner tied for 23rd at 222, junior Chelsey Pryor tied for 32nd at 224, junior Tiffany Woods carded a 233 to tie for 60th, and sophomore Jill Womble shot a 235 to tie for 64th.

Northwestern scored 870 to win the team title.

Kansas will travel April 9-10 to the Lady Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
