Wood earns loss for Kansas City

? Mike Gosling made a push for the final spot in Arizona’s rotation, pitching four solid innings during the Diamondbacks’ 13-5 victory Sunday over the Kansas City Royals.

Troy Glaus went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Arizona. He’s hitting .545 with runners in scoring position (12-for-22) this spring.

Gosling, competing with Brad Halsey to be the No. 5 starter, issued leadoff walks in the first and second, but escaped with the help of two double plays. The 24-year-old left-hander allowed one run, three hits and three walks, striking out one.

“I have a feeling it’s going to come right down to the end,” Gosling said.

Kansas City starter Mike Wood gave up five runs and six hits in four innings. In five previous appearances this spring, he had allowed only one earned run in 102/3 innings for an earned-run average of 0.84.

Tony Clark hit a two-run homer, and Shawn Green had an RBI single for the Diamondbacks. Greg Aquino threw a scoreless fifth.

Kansas City scored four runs in the eighth off Lance Cormier, including RBI doubles by Joe McEwing and Ken Harvey.
