Lawmaker visits with Kiwanis Club

Congressman Dennis Moore, whose district includes east Lawrence, on Thursday spoke to Kiwanis Club members during their meeting at the Lawrence Country Club, 400 Country Club Terrace.

During the speech and a question-and-answer session that followed, Moore touched on several issues including Social Security reform, the federal budget and the importance of drafting a living will.

Moore told audience members about a bill he introduced that would prohibit Social Security funds from being spent on new spending or new tax cuts.

Under the bill, Social Security money could only be used for Social Security. Moore also discussed the importance of balancing the federal budget and, in light of the nationally recognized case involving Terri Schiavo, encouraged Kiwanis Club members to draft a living will.
