Adelbert James ‘Jim’ Taylor, Lawrence

A memorial service for Adelbert James “Jim” Taylor, 78, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Kansas University’s Danforth Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Redding, Calif.

Mr. Taylor died Monday, March 21, 2005, at LakeView Manor.

He was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Arbuckle, Calif., the son of Cecil Lester and Verona Potter Taylor. He grew up in Northern California and received his bachelor’s degree from California State University in Chico.

Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1960 as a pilot. He then worked as a general contractor. He also was a high school teacher for Shoshone and Shasta counties in California. In 1998, he moved to Lawrence from Redding.

He was a member of Southside Church of Christ.

He married Mildred Williams on Dec. 19, 1947, in Vallejo, Calif. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Don, San Francisco, and James, Los Angeles; two daughters, Mary Moody, Big Lake, Ark., and Suzie Taylor-Meadows, Lawrence; two brothers, Robert, Tulsa, Okla., and Conrad, Concord, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the church or a public school of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
