Grace D. Browning, Lawrence

Funeral services for Grace D. Browning, 87, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Lawrence. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Centropolis.

Mrs. Browning died Friday, March 25, 2005, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Dec. 6, 1917, in Pomona, the daughter of Dean and Lena Kristenson Baer. She attended North Illinois Elementary south of Pomona and Ottawa High School. She had lived in Lawrence, Elkhart and Centropolis.

She worked in the bakery at Rusty’s Food Centers in Lawrence.

Mrs. Browning was a member of the First Christian Church and the women’s group there. She also volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She married Robert V. Browning on Oct. 23, 1935, in Olathe. He died in 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Rex E. Browning, Ottawa, and Rockie C. Browning, Lawrence; a daughter, Carol Adler, Pomona; a brother, Bob Baer, Ottawa; a sister, Ruth Wieneke, Lawrence; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A son, Raymond V. Browning, died in 1967, and a daughter, Donna Kahle, died in 1996. A grandson, Russ Browning, died in 1999.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the mortuary.
