Harry O. Barnes, Paola

? Services for Harry O. Barnes, 89, Spring Hill, will be at 2 p.m. today at Wilson & Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial will be in Fontana Cemetery in Fontana.

Mr. Barnes died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born April 23, 1915, in Hillsdale, the son of Dr. James and Mattie Jennings Barnes. He grew up in Hillsdale and attended school in Miami County. He lived in the Paola area and later moved back to Hillsdale, where he lived for 32 years. He moved to Spring Hill in 1992.

Mr. Barnes served in the U.S. Army during World War II and spent 30 months in the European theater. He received a Bronze Star before being honorably discharged in 1945. He worked at Pure Gold Dairy in Paola and Osawatomie. He later worked for Hall’s Trucklines in Olathe for 17 years before he retired. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both of Paola.

He married Helen M. Smith in June 1938, in Kansas City. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Daryl W., Baldwin; a brother, Fred Jennings, Baldwin; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
