Brawner Second: Wally Brawner of Tonganoxie finished second in the 3,000-meter run at the National Masters Indoor championships in Boise, Idaho. Brawner, who competes in the 65-69 age group, was clocked in 12:19.

Gymnast Shines: Scott Bregman of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy was crowned state champion for the fifth straight year in Level 10 at the Kansas Gymnastics Championships on Saturday at LGA. Bregman won floor exercise, vault, parallel bars and the pommel horse. Earlier this season, Bregman won the all-around at a meet in Garland, Texas, and placed third in the all-around at a St. Louis competition.

Futsal Champs: Kaw Valley Force U-12 girls won the Lawrence Futsal League championship. Team members are Erin Ice, Marley Sutter, Natalie Wilkin, Mallory Neet, Tess Carpenter, Amy Meyers and Kelly Latham. Coach is Riny de Boer. KVF U-11 girls were second. Team members are Sarah Olsowsky, Madeline Dieker, Kaitlin Dunbar, Abby Casady, Chelsea Casady, Olivia Hodison and Elena Aur. Sarah Garcia is the coach.

PFWC Qualifiers: Trey Jimboy and Dylan Housworth of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club qualified for the state championships this weekend in Topeka after second- and fourth-place finishes at the district meet.

Baldwin to Send Dozen: Baldwin Wrestling Club qualified 12 competitors for this weekend’s state meet in Topeka. Three were regional gold medalists — Colton Bonner, Gabe Mason and Jesse Hardy. Seconds went to Bryce Shoemaker, Jesse LaMay, Alan Callahan, Kevin Callahan and Zach Hertzel. Thirds were earned by Jon Pratt, Jack Mitchell, Coltin Thomas and Josh Hanson.

Schaumburg Sharp: Rosie Schaumburg of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy earned Level 5 age-group all-around titles at meets in St. Joseph, Mo.; Wichita; St. Louis; and at the Lawrence Winter Cup. At the same meets, LGA’s Annie Soderberg captured a first, two seconds and a third. Also, Rachel Rasmussen collected a first and a fourth. All three also medaled in the state championships Saturday in Gardner. Rasmussen earned a third place in all-around, Soderberg a fourth and Schaumburg a seventh.

LGA State Medalists: April Miller of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the beam and placed fourth in the all-around at Level 8 in the state championships. Teammate Laura Devlin was second in floor exercise and on the bars and third in all-around. LGA’s Sarah Athey was second on the beam and in floor ex. Miller and Devlin qualified for the regional meet in Denver.

Aquahawks Qualifiers: Anthony Portela, Jill Courtney, Ashley Robinson and Caitlin Gallagher of the Lawrence Aquahawks will compete in the National Club Swimming Assn. junior championships this weekend in Orlando, Fla.

KU Soccer Camps: Kansas University’s soccer staff will conduct three weeks of youth camps this summer, starting May 31. For information, call Kara Lowery at 864-5833.

Orchards Aces: Andy Ensz, David Roubison and Gary Gardner recorded holes-in-one this month at the Orchards Golf Course. Ensz aced the 250-yard No. 3 hole with a 3-wood with Kent Albers witnessing. Roubison used a pitching wedge on the 119-yard No. 4 hole while playing with Mike Blanck. Gardner used a pitching wedge to ace the 85-yard No. 8 hole with Blake Phelps as witness.

Soccer Selectee: Lawrence’s Daniel Chance has been selected for the KSYSA Kansas ’92 Select soccer team that will participate in a regional Olympic development camp this summer in Rockford, Ill. Chance plays for the Kaw Valley Force U-12 White team.

Golden Oldies: Entries are being accepted for the Golden Oldies golf tournament March 31 at the Orchards. Entry fee is $25 for the four-man scramble for golfers over age 60. For information, call Lynn Goodell at 856-5772.

SWC Gold: Hunter Haralson, Reece Conklin and Jessie Harding of the Sunflower Wrestling Club collected gold medals at the regional meet Saturday in Baldwin. SWC’s Cole Cannon and Mark Summers earned second places, and posted a third place.

Brew-to-Brew Champs: The Lawrence team of Dee Boeck, Lori Cackler, Brenda Groskinsky, Karen Hyde and Patty Stanford won the women’s age-adjusted team division of Sunday’s Brew-to-Brew 43-mile relay run.
