Brown services

Services for Alice Irene Brown, 82, Lawrence, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, March 21, 2005, at her home.

She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Archibald H. and Ferne Brown Woodrow. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1940. She moved to Manila, Philippines, in 1947 and to Lawrence in 1948.

Mrs. Brown worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. She volunteered for the Audio Reader Program and Kansas University from 1979 to 2003. She was a member of PEO Chapter AZ from 1978 to 2005 and the No Name Club from 1950 to 2005.

She married Forrest Dean Brown in 1944. He died in 2001.

Survivors include a son, Doug Brown, Lawrence; three daughters, Connie Bryan, Linwood, Sheryl Shockey, Overland Park, and Candace Brown Mastio, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday after the services at Lawrence Country Club.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
