Roy Lee Reed, Baldwin

? Graveside services for Roy Lee Reed, 88, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin.

Mr. Reed died Monday, March 21, 2005, at LakeView Manor in Lawrence.

He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Lucas, the son of Robert and Nellie McMillan Reed.

He grew up on the family farm near Lucas where he helped his father, then went to work at a Civilian Conversation Corps camp in Valley Falls. He worked at the Lawrence and McPherson flour mills filling government orders during World War II. He was a truck driver for 22 years. He also worked as a mechanic for Stevenson Oldsmobile, Jack Ellena Buick and Johnson Chevrolet. He worked as a road maintenance operator for Willow Springs and Palmyra townships. He also refinished furniture.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Kathleen, of the home; four sons, Jeff, of the home, Roy “Sonny” Jr., Denver, Billie, Boulder, Colo., and Larry, Oahu, Hawaii; two daughters, Joy Marden and Cherly Ashby, both of Denver; three stepsons, Keith Pearce, Berryton, and Richard Pearce and John Pearce, both of Centralia; two stepdaughters, Allene Keating, Topeka, and Marsha Pohl, Baldwin; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
