Gruber, Short compete at NCAA Championships

? Kansas University senior Amy Gruber and sophomore Jenny Short placed 22nd and 45th at the final day of the 2005 NCAA Swimming Championships.

Gruber finished 22nd in the 100 freestyle in a time of 49.74, and Short finished 45th in the 200 backstroke in 2:02.34.

“Amy’s finish in the 100 freestyle was a good way for her to end her collegiate career here at Kansas,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “Jenny swam a solid race and learned a lot at the NCAAs. She will use this experience in the future seasons.”

In her final collegiate meet, Gruber placed 18th in the 100 butterfly, 22nd in the 100 freestyle, and 30th in the 50 freestyle. Short finished 36th in the 100 backstroke and 45th in the 200 backstroke in her first career NCAA Championship meet.

Gruber will move on to compete in the 100-meter freestyle competition at the World Championship Trials on April 5 in Indianapolis.
