University Bridge Club announces the winners of its March 12 game. Hosts were Harold and Donna Riehm.

Blue winners were Nancy Elbrader, first; Virginia Williams, second; Dale Kring, third; Paul Jordan, fourth and John Golden, fifth.

Pink winners were Lois Liebert, first; Mary Jo Spotts, second; Wanda Kring, third; Carolyn Jordan, fourth; and Edna Galle, fifth.

Lori Kesinger and Diana Folks received Extension awards from Lions Club International at the District 17 K-7 Convention March 4-6 in Topeka. Kesinger is program manager of the Kansas Audio-Reader Network and a charter member of the River City Lions Club. Folks is public relations assistant for Public Strategies Inc., a charter member of the KU Lions Club, and a member of the River City Lions.

Dist. Gov. Rudy Pouch presented them with several pins recognizing their efforts in forming the Kansas University Lions Club. They received the Extension Award No. 1 from Lions Club International, 2004-2005 Extension Award “Share Success” from Lions International President Clement Kusiak, the Multiple District 17 Extension Award from Kansas Lions and the New Club Extension pin from the Kansas MERL team. The new club was chartered Oct. 24 and currently has 22 KU students as members.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge game on March 9 used the Howell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. Shirley Reese and Shirlie Vaughn placed first, followed by Lois Clark and Catherine Blumenfeld. Florine Creek and Nita Scales placed third, followed by Patt Radford and Yvonne Hedges. Judy Bevan and John Gilbert tied for fifth place with Marge Hitchcock and Virginia Johnston.

The Wednesday Evening’s Mentor Bridge game on March 9 used the Howell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman. Betty Spalsbury and Bob Anderson placed first, followed by Don Daugherty and Harry Talley. Albert Ballard and Emily Foster were third, followed by Grant Sutton and Ann Thompson. Ilse Steinhardt and Jolene Anderson placed fifth.

The Friday Afternoon’s TGIF Bridge game on March 11 was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North-South winners were led by Lester Dalton and Janice Hollowell, followed by Harry Shaffer and Lois Clark. Shirlie Vaughn and Mary White placed third, followed by Patt Radford and Betty Collier. Lois Jones and Jeffrey Nash placed fifth.

The East-West winners were led by Ann Thompson and Bob Anderson, followed by Catherine Blumenfeld and Lynn Hui. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed third, followed by Yvonne Hedges and Carol Ball. Linda Swain and Linda Randall tied for fifth place with Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell.

The Sunday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge game used the Howell movement and was directed by Eldon Herd. Jeffrey Nash and Lois Jones placed first, followed by Jerry Sloan and Grant Sutton. Betty Spalsbury and Bob Anderson placed third, followed by Ann Thompson and Emily Foster.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge game used the Mitchell movement, was stratified and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North-South winners were led by Lois Clark and Harry Shaffer. Chris Lane and Shirley Reese placed second in A and first in B. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed third, followed by Bob Hemenway and Peter Petillo.

The East-West winners were led by Patt Radford and John Hickey, followed by Lois Jones and Jeffrey Nash. Catherine Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld placed third in A and first in B. David Piro and Donna Johnson placed fourth in A.
