James A. Lewis, Topeka

? Graveside services for James A. Lewis, 82, Topeka, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

Mr. Lewis died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Rolling Hills Health Care Center in Topeka.

He was born June 3, 1922, in Mayen, Germany, the son of James Earl and Christina Nothen Lewis. He moved to Manhattan and graduated from Manhattan High School. He lived a short time in Pittsburg and lived in Lawrence for 45 years.

Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He worked as a maintenance repairman for Kansas University. He retired when he was 80 years old.

Survivors include a nephew, Michael L. Lewis, Topeka; and two great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Friday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home to form a procession to the cemetery.
