Chicago Board of Trade

Grain and soybean futures retreated Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Wheat for May delivery fell 7 cents to $3.61 a bushel; May corn fell 3 cents to $2.25 1/2 a bushel; May oats fell 2 3/4 cents to $1.56 a bushel; May soybeans fell 7 1/2 cents to $6.73 1/2 a bushel.

Pork futures increased on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Beef futures finished lower.

April live cattle fell .08 cent to 89.67 cents a pound; April feeder cattle fell .05 cent to $1.047 a pound; April lean hogs rose .70 cent to 71.27 cents a pound; May pork bellies rose .85 cent to 91.20 cents a pound.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers opened steady on a light test. Stocker cattle weighing under 700 lbs opened 4.00-7.00 higher with buyers being very aggressive. A larger percentage of the calves this week were new crop and carrying considerably more flesh. The best demand is for the thinner stockers weighing from 400-650 lbs.
