Prairie paintings to be exhibited

Paintings of the Kansas prairie by Marilyn Cathcart, a Kansas University graduate, will be exhibited in the Stiefel Theatre’s Watson Gallery in Salina through April 16.

Cathcart, Manhattan native, has a bachelor’s degree in French and English from KU. She earned a master’s degree in English from San Francisco State University and a degree in design and illustration from the Art Institute of Boston. She has worked as a freelance illustrator since 1984 and has focused on painting for the past five years.

The Watson Gallery is free and is open noon-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and noon-6 p.m. Thursday.

The gallery is funded in part by a grant from the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
