Douglas County’s 4-H Day was Feb. 5. Many 4-Hers who competed in the day’s events earned the honor of representing the county at Regional 4-H Day on Feb. 26, when members competed against 4-H’ers in Shawnee, Miami, Wyandotte, Johnson and Osage counties. Those who competed were: Martha Keslar, Taylor Davis, Casey Davis, Ashley Lesser, Garrett Jones, Samantha Box, Whitney Box, Addison Jones, Jackie Hewins, Paris Nottingham, Christine Caffey, Becca Hinshaw, Michael Krumm, Janell Tefft, Matthew Kelso, Mason Kelso, Wesley Callahan, Tori Booth, Simon Fangman, Mary Cox, Casey Davis, Kennedy O’Dell, Jen Crawford and Erin Marie Jansen.

Douglas County 4-H Council met Feb. 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. The council discussed plans for the Douglas County Free Fair.
The club announced that the Douglas County 4-H program would serve at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen on April 30. Clubs will donate the needed items.
The Friendship Night Committee announced there would be a dance and game night on April 2 in Building 21 at the fairgrounds. The Centennial Committee announced plans to have each member’s picture put on a candle and then have it displayed at the Kansas State Fair in honor of the Centennial of 4-H in Kansas. Members also discussed how to improve County 4-H Day and its participation level.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 18 in Deal Six Auditorium at the fairgrounds.

About 110 members of Douglas County 4-H attended Food Fare on Feb. 19 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Youths watched a presentation, based on “The Three Little Pigs,” about healthy eating. Members also learned about how to be creative and safe with food.

Vinland Family Community and Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Vinland Methodist Church. Virgie Pfantz will be hostess. Kayellen Hess will give the lesson “Forgetfulness or Alzheimer’s?” Members will answer roll call by telling about a forgetful moment.

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club met Feb. 14. Members answered roll call by naming the last movie or television show they watched. Peter Pottorff led the club in singing “Three Blind Mice.”
Paula Aiken gave the leaders report. She recognized several members who received awards during County Club Days. Green 4-H bracelets were distributed. The club will be purchasing T-shirts for new members.
A group project talk was presented by members enrolled in visual arts. The presentation was similar to “Jeopardy,” giving interesting facts about famous artists.
The next meeting will be at 7:15 p.m. Monday.

The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club met Feb. 14 at the Stull United Methodist Church. The club chorus sang the two songs they performed for County Club Days. The chorus received a top purple and performed at Regional Club Days in Baldwin, where they received a blue ribbon. Presentations about beef, poultry and arts and crafts were given.
The club’s next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday. It will be “Spirit Night.”
