Baylor belts Missouri; K-State rips Nebraska
Wildcats to meet Texas in semifinals
Kansas City, Mo. ? Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson has such a talented team, balancing playing time can sometimes be tougher than winning ballgames.
That was the case Wednesday when No. 6 Baylor advanced to the Big 12 semifinals with a 70-52 victory over Missouri.
“It’s not fun for me,” Mulkey-Robertson said. “I don’t have an eight-player rotation like maybe you should. I need to be on my toes.”
Sophia Young scored 18 points and Chameka Scott added 16 to lead the top-seeded Bears (25-3), who will play Texas Tech today. Latoya Wyatt had 11 points and Steffanie Blackmon had 10.
Wyatt, who played just six minutes in last week’s Big 12 title-clinching win against Texas Tech, finished 5-for-5 and provided the Bears with a much-needed lift after Missouri whittled a 20-point lead to 10 early in the second half.
“I know it’s very difficult to play a role,” Mulkey-Robertson said. “A lot of the success we’ve had this year was the unexpected player. Today it was Latoya.”
Christelle N’Garsanet led ninth-seeded Missouri (11-18) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
No. 11 Texas 65, Oklahoma 59
Tiffany Jackson scored 25 points, including nine down the stretch, to lead No. 11 Texas over Oklahoma The Longhorns improved to 21-7.
Trailing 44-42 with 14:07 left, Texas put together a 9-2 run to take a 51-46 lead. Oklahoma cut it to 52-50 on Britney Brown’s three-pointer with five minutes to go, but Jackson converted a three-point play in the post and a spinning layup a minute later to push the lead to 59-52.
No. 14 Texas Tech 61, No. 18 Iowa State 59
Alesha Robertson made two free throws with 2.7 seconds left and Iowa State’s last-second shot rimmed out to lift No. 14 Texas Tech.
Robertson and Chelsey Dabbs each had 13 points to lead the Raiders (22-6), who face No. 6 Baylor in today’s semifinal. Erin Grant added 12 points and nine assists and Cisti Greenwalt had 12 points and nine rebounds.
No. 17 Kansas State 71, Nebraska 45
Kendra Wecker scored 19 points and became the Big 12’s career scoring leader, lifting No. 17 Kansas State over Nebraska. Wecker broke former teammate Nicole Ohlde’s record on a 12-foot jump shot that gave Kansas State a 47-25 lead with 14:07 to go in the game. She now has 2,248 career points.
The third-seeded Wildcats will play No. 2 seed Texas in tonight’s semifinal round.
