Latin poet to give public reading at KU

Mart–n Espada, one of the leading Latino poets of his generation, will give a public reading at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kansas Union.

His seventh collection, “Alabanza: New and Selected Poems (1982-2002),” received the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement and was named an American Library Assn. Notable Book. An earlier collection of Espada’s work, “Imagine the Angels of Bread,” won an American Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

His poems have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, Harper’s, The Nation and The Best American Poetry.

East Lawrence to have annual YART sale

The East Lawrence Neighborhood Assn. will have its annual YART Sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 19.

The community is welcome to shop for arts, crafts and yard-sale treasures. There will be live entertainment and homemade goodies at the bake sale.

Proceeds benefit East Lawrence Neighborhood Assn. projects and New York School.
