Sheriff’s Office studies unsolved strangling

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing an unsolved 1989 homicide in light of the arrest of BTK suspect Dennis Rader.

But a detective in the department said he didn’t think Rader would be linked to the strangling death of 37-year-old Nilsa Sanchez, whose body was found in a ditch near Stull.

Detective Doug Woods said the department contacted Wichita Police and gave details about the death to see whether they matched things police knew about Rader. But Woods said no initial similarities were seen.

The next step is to see whether any evidence can be compared to Rader’s DNA, Woods said.
