Baseball player arrested

A Kansas University baseball player was arrested on suspicion of battery this weekend after a fight near campus.

Police arrested Scott A. Sharpe, 22, a senior pitcher, after a fight in the 400 block of West 14th Street.

According to the report, the victim, a 21-year-old KU student, was having a party at his residence when two unknown men arrived and were told to leave. After an argument, one of the unknown men slapped a partygoer in the face, according to the report.

The victim said he began following the men as they walked away and then was jumped by a group of four or five men and punched five or six times.

Police arrested Sharpe in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street after a witness recognized him, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman.

Sharpe was ordered to appear March 16 in municipal court.
