Services for Sammie Clayton Hunter, 65, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private inurnment will be later.
Mr. Hunter died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at his home.
He was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Perry, the son of Sammie Ethan and Geneva May Sharkey Hunter. He graduated from Perry High School in 1957, and received his Bachelor of Science in business from Kansas University in 1961.
Mr. Hunter was an accountant with Fleming Foods in several states. He later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and Mainline Printing in Topeka. He was co-owner of Willow Park Auto Sales and worked at Yarrington Olds and Laird Noller Ford in Topeka. He also worked at Hy-Vee in Lawrence.
He married Karen Torneden on Dec. 16, 1960, in Lawrence. She died July 2, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristin Ready, Topeka; a son, Clayton Hunter, Overland Park; and five grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Forever United at United Way of Douglas County Endowment, sent in care of the mortuary.
