Scattered showers were providing a little relief around the Lawrence area this morning.

“A few showers and rumbles of thunder are possible through the early afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. By 11 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport had recorded 0.25 of an inch of rain since scattered showers began shortly before 6 a.m., Schack said.

“Once the sun comes out, temperatures will quickly climb,” she said. But it won’t be quite as hot as Monday’s 96.

“The high is going to get up to 90,” Schack said. The average high for this date is 88. The record high is 107, set in 1980. Winds will be from the south today at 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 25 mph, she said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 75 by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s high will be the hottest of the summer so far, with the temperature expected to climb to 100 degrees by late afternoon, Schack said. Winds will be from the south, 10 to 20 mph, gusting up to 25 mph, she said.

It won’t be quite as hot on Thursday. The temperature will start in the morning at 70 degrees and climb to 91 by late afternoon.
