Public radio

Radio station to go off-air temporarily

Kansas Public Radio, the National Public Radio affiliate at Kansas University, will be off the air today for equipment installation.

KPR, which broadcasts at 91.5 FM in Lawrence, will be off the air beginning at 9 a.m. today as crews work to upgrade the station’s broadcast signal. Programming will still be available online at http://kpr.ku.edu.

The Kansas Audio-Reader Network, a service for the visually impaired, also will be off the air during the work.

The work is expected to take one day, but bad weather or other complications could take KPR off the air for part of Wednesday, as well.

A tower crew will install equipment as part of a “high-definition” radio upgrade.

The new equipment will provide better quality digital broadcasts and artists and song title information on high-definition-equipped radios.
