Hot weather continues
Some like it hot — and they’re in for a treat. The recent string of 90-degree afternoons is expected to continue today and through the rest of the week, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
“We have a hot and dry forecast,” Schack said.
Today’s high is expected to reach 90 by noon and 95 by 4 p.m.. The average for this date is 88 degrees. The record is 107 degrees, set in 1980.
Schack said some thunderstorms were building up across central Kansas, but they were expected to push up into Nebraska and not make it east to the Lawrence area. Lawrence will continue to have mostly clear skies today.
At 8:15 a.m., it was 77 degrees, with hazy skies, a humidity level of 77 percent and a southeast 3-mph wind.
“It’s quite muggy on your way out,” Schack said.
Tonight, temperatures will fall to 72 by early morning Tuesday. But Tuesday will be even warmer than today.
Tuesday’s afternoon high will be 97 degrees, with south winds 10 to 15 mph and a few more clouds moving in.
Wednesday’s morning low will be 74 and will climb to 98 by late afternoon under sunny skies. A front will move in late Wednesday night, bringing more clouds.
