Southeast Area Plan to be revisited

Douglas County Commission agenda ¢ 6:35 p.m. today ¢ County courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Bottom line

County commissioners today will discuss the proposed Southeast Area Plan, which spells out future land uses for about 1,200 acres of property near O’Connell Road and Kansas Highway 10.

Background

Lawrence city commissioners unanimously agreed last week that more thought should go into the proposed plan. They sent the proposal back to the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission, saying they wanted planners to do more work and determine the need for additional roads.

Lawrence-Douglas County Planning commissioners in February approved the plan on a 5-4 vote. The proposal would allow for about 680 acres of industrial property in the area. Some residents have said it allows too much industrial development.
