Fee increases likely in budget

Lawrence residents can expect single-digit percentage increases for water, sewer and trash services, along with an increase in green fees at the city-owned Eagle Bend Golf Course, in 2006.

Commissioners were briefed on proposed fee increases at their budget session Wednesday. They were told that water rates would need to increase by about 4 percent, on average, and sewer bills would need to rise by 9 percent, according to a recently completed rate study.

The bill for a household using 6,000 gallons of water per month will rise from $17.97 to $18.63 for water service and from $30.52 to $33.30 for sewer service.

Rates for trash collection will go up by 2 percent for residential and commercial customers, if commissioners approve the 2006 city budget as recommended. The rate for the average residential customer will increase from $11.71 per month to $11.94 per month.

Green fees at Eagle Bend golf course are scheduled to increase by $1 per 18 holes, or 50 cents for nine holes. Cart rental fees would not change. Recommended 2006 rates would increase green fees to $23 on weekends and $20 on weekdays.

None of the commissioners objected to the fee increases.
