Mariners plan to put slumping Boone on bench

? Seattle’s Bret Boone is not happy about his situation, but won’t blame anyone but himself.

Boone was not in the lineup Saturday night against the New York Mets, and manager Mike Hargrove said the veteran second baseman would not start during the final six games of the Mariners’ homestand.

“I’m not mad at skipper. I’m more disappointed with myself putting him in a situation where he would think about doing this. That’s what I’m angry about,” Boone said before Saturday’s game. “I think he wants me back to being me.”

Boone will spend the next week working on his hitting mechanics, in hopes of improving his .227 average this season.

Hargrove said Boone’s absence from the lineup might extend into Seattle’s road trip Friday to San Diego.
